Growing up, my mom would hide our stockings so that we’d have to hunt for them on Christmas morning. We would play with whatever was in there until they got up, but there were a few items that we could expect every year.

Anchoring the bottom of the stocking would be a Florida orange and a “reindeer apple”. There’d also be a book of lifesavers and a candy cane shaped thing filled with off-brand M&M type candy.

It was awesome, but come to find out reindeer apples don’t exist! They were just really big apples - a fact I didn’t realize until my 30s. I don’t know how long it is going to take for my boys to figure this out. Hopefully, they got their smarts from my wife.
