The original cast of The Breakfast Club—Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Anthony Michael Hall—reunited for the first time in 40 years at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) on April 12, 2025. This emotional gathering marked Estevez’s first-ever participation in a reunion event for the film.
Estevez shared a humorous anecdote about their initial script read-through in 1984, revealing he was under the influence of pain medication from a recent wisdom teeth extraction. He recalled passing out during a screening of John Hughes’ Sixteen Candles, prompting co-star Judd Nelson to joke, “I think you’re getting fired.”
The panel also addressed the possibility of a sequel, with the cast expressing reluctance out of respect for the late director John Hughes. Ringwald highlighted the film’s lack of diversity and suggested that instead of a direct remake, filmmakers should create modern adaptations inspired by the original’s spirit.
Additionally, Ringwald discussed the controversial makeover scene of Sheedy’s character, Allison, stating she was unhappy with how it was portrayed and emphasized that she was not responsible for the transformation.
The reunion underscored the enduring legacy of The Breakfast Club, with the cast reflecting on their experiences and the film’s impact over the past four decades.
