‘Chariots Of Fire’, ‘Star Trek’ actor Ben Cross dead at 72

English actor Ben Cross, known for his portrayal of the British Olympic athlete Harold Abrahams in “Chariots of Fire,” has died at age 72.

His daughter confirmed the news Tuesday on Facebook, saying that he had been sick and his condition worsened this week. He died in Vienna, family members confirmed to Deadline Hollywood.

His acting career started in 1972, and in 1981, he gained international attention when he played British Olympic athlete Harold Abrahams in “Chariots Of Fire.” The film went on to win four of seven Oscar nominations.

Cross appeared in various TV series and films, including the villain Prince Malagant in the 1995 movie “First Knight.”

Cross played Spock’s father, Sarek, in the first reboot of the Star Trek film series by J.J. Abrams.

Cross was married three times according to Deadline Hollywood. He is survived by his wife Deyana Boneva Cross, and his two children, Lauren and Theo.
