There Are Genuine Batmobiles At A Car Museum In Tallahassee
I’ve always been a bit of a gearhead when it comes to cars. I’m not great at working on them, and I haven’t built a hot rod in my garage either, but I’m a fan of cars. So anytime there’s a car museum I try to find my way there at some point. I’ve seen some of the coolest, rarest, most famous, and most expensive cars in my life, especially touring around the country with my podcast about cars and rock stars, Skidmarks Show. (I’ll share some of those other pics with you soon too.)
So on my most recent adventure around our great state of Florida, I found myself at the Tallahassee Automobile Museum. This is a public museum by a wealthy private collector named Devoe Moore. And boy does he like to collect. EVERYTHING. This museum is home to many cars, along with a sports memorabilia collection like hundreds of different golf clubs, a knife collection with tens of thousands of knives, old phones, and typewriters, and boat engines, and Steinway Pianos, and even a couple doll collection rooms. Yes, doll collection rooms. Totally not creepy at all...
I have pictures to share of much of this, but today we’ll focus on what I think is, or at least should be, the biggest selling point of the collection: multiple vehicles from Tim Burton’s “Batman Returns” movie! There’s one of 2 remaining Batmobiles from the movie, The Penguin’s “Duckmobile” that Danny DeVito drove in the movie, and even the only ever built full size Batskiboat. Plus there’s an original Batcycle from 1966 and the original TV show that Adam West rode, including the sidecar and go cart that Burt Ward as Robin drove. At least that’s how the museum presented all of these and I’ll include the vehicle show cards they displayed for provenance.
Check out the original trailer for the film and see the Batmobile, the Duckmobile, and the Batskiboat all in action.
