Rob Zombie is a man of many talents, but I haven’t seen him do any comedy as of yet. Obviously he’s got rock star chops and has written and directed some really good horror movies like House Of 1,000 Corpses. He’s often talked about his love of The Munsters TV show, and recently did a DVD commentary with Eddie Munster himself, Butch Patrick, for the Munster, Go Home release last year.
Now he’s set to direct a brand new take on the classic TV show from the 60′s. But I haven’t been able to find if he’s going to do it as a comedy style movie like the original show, or a comedy/horror mash-up that’s been more common recently, or if he’s just going to do it straight horror. I hope he includes more comedy than horror because that show was never about scary, it was about comedy and family, at least it was to me.
He has many of his usual actors playing roles for this one like his wife Sherry Moon Zombie playing Lily Munster and Jeff Daniel Philips, who has been in a few Zombie pics himself, as Herman Munster. Oh and the real Elvira is in this one too so I’m already intrigued.
Like many movies hitting audiences currently this one is said to launch in theaters and streaming on Peacock, the NBC streaming service, on the same day.
Here’s the scene from The Munsters where Grandpa builds Dragula, which Rob Zombie has a song named after.
Check out Rob’s horror stocked house from his episode of MTV Cribs where he has original Munster memorabilia and mentions the show at least 3 times, I think.
